Gemstone Development Commissions More than $100,000 in Glass Art
Gemstone Development announced today that it has commissioned more than $100,000 in glass art, in the form of two works for the lobby of Element House, the flagship building at its ManhattanWest community. The pieces integrate the glass and steel of Element House's exterior into its lush Earth lobby and are being crafted by Barbara and Larry Domsky, known for their high profile glass art. The Domsky's installations include the Bellagio, and Cirque Du Soleil.
"I'm pleased to be able to commission such fine art for ManhattanWest," said Gemstone Development CEO, Alex Edelstein. "The organic nature of the Domsky's style will add great beauty to the lobby of the Element House. We hope in the future to be able to bring more art to our projects, and feature local artists in the process. Local art is a key strength of the urban experience."
The two pieces will take more than four months to complete, and will go through three separate steps before being assembled and installed at the community. The Domsky's have created their own unique style of glass working by bringing together a perfect blending of hot glass and glass fusion to create what they have termed as "hot-fusion". Gemstone Development was connected with the Domsky's through an introduction by local artist Mike Wardle.
