GroupGemstone Announces Theatrical Release of Film Investment, “Evening”
GroupGemstone announced today the theatrical release of its second theatrical film investment, Evening. The film is being produced by Hart Sharp and The True Film Fund II and is co-financed with Focus Features (the independent distribution arm of Universal Pictures).
The film will open on Friday, June 29th, 2007 at more than 800 theatres nationwide. Focus Features will accompany the release with an aggressive television and print campaign as counter-programming to the larger studio tent pole releases such as EVAN ALMIGHTY and HARRY POTTER. Anticipation is high that the opening weekend will translate into strong Fourth of July holiday business across the country and into the months of July and August, as there are no comparable specialty films in the marketplace slated for release at this time.
Evening tells the story of a dying woman reflecting back upon one weekend in her youth when she met the love of her life. The best-selling novel, written by Susan Minot, has been adapted for the screen by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Cunningham (THE HOURS).
Focus Features, the independent division of Universal Films, is best known for releasing Oscar™ winning films such as BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, LOST IN TRANSLATION, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and THE CONSTANT GARDENER. In addition to co-financing the film with True Film Fund II, Focus will distribute the film worldwide.
The film’s ensemble cast includes Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Vanessa Redgrave, Claire Danes and Toni Collette.
